The Florida Letter To Putative Father Registry is a state-run program designed to help ensure that fathers’ rights are protected in the event of a child being born out of wedlock. The registry allows men to register as a putative father and be notified of any adoption proceedings that might affect them. There are two types of registries: the Voluntary Registry and the Involuntary Registry. The Voluntary Registry is for men who are voluntarily claiming paternity of the child. The Involuntary Registry is for men who are not voluntarily claiming paternity, but may still be considered a legal father based on certain criteria. Both registries allow the father to be notified of any adoption proceedings that may affect him.
