An Illinois Complaint (Single Charge) is a legal document used to initiate a criminal case in the state of Illinois. It is the initial document filed by the State's Attorney in a criminal case and is the formal accusation of a criminal offense. This document includes the defendant's name, the charge, and the date of the alleged offense. There are two types of Illinois Complaint (Single Charge): Felony Complaint and Misdemeanor Complaint. A Felony Complaint is an accusation alleging that the defendant has committed a felony offense, punishable by imprisonment of more than one year. A Misdemeanor Complaint is an accusation alleging that the defendant has committed a misdemeanor offense, punishable by imprisonment of less than one year.
