In a civil case, the judge will tell you how many jurors must agree in order to reach a verdict. In a criminal case, the unanimous agreement of all 12 jurors is required.

How Often Am I Required to Serve? There is no limit to the number of times that you may serve in a lifetime. However, you are only obligated to serve jury duty once every 12 months. The difference is that the jury delivers a verdict.Essentially an Expedited Trial is a mini version of a full trial. An expedited jury trial is a short trial, generally lasting only one or two days. Participation is voluntary. The goal of the expedited jury trial process is to complete a trial in one day. Jury trials will be before six jurors and may proceed before a five-person jury if a juror is unable to serve through conclusion of trial and deliberations. The goal is to complete an expedited jury trial within two full trial days. Cal. Upon the joint stipulation of the parties to any civil case, the court may conduct an expedited trial as provided in this section. The complete procedures of an Expedited Jury Trial are found in CCP 630.01-630.10.
