ATV/UTV riding in Wisconsin ATV and UTV operators born on or after Jan. 1, 1988 who are at least 12 years old for ATV (and at least 16 years old for UTV) must complete an ATV and UTV safety certification course in order to operate on public ATV/UTV trails and areas in Wisconsin.
Operators should carry all necessary registration cards and paperwork with them for display to a law enforcement officer upon request. In addition, all ATVs and UTVs registered as public use will be required to furnish a rear plate that displays the registration number. Plates can be created or purchased.
Wisconsin doesn't require ATV or UTV drivers to have Liability Insurance; however, insuring your ATV or UTV can be a good idea because of the expense of repairing or replacing these vehicles in case of an accident.
