Huge forest with lots of trails, sites to see and places to stop. We hiked the Morrison Trail Loop which is a 5.1 mile trail. It has good hills up and down, a number of creek crossings, open areas and covered forest. Not an easy hike but not difficult either.
Driving can be an excellent way to tour the expansive Allegheny National Forest. Hundreds of miles of Forest Roads and one nationally designated Scenic Byways are all waiting for you. You may wish to pick up (or order by mail) a Forest Map before you go.
The purpose of this order is to limit alcohol use on the Allegheny National Forest to only those individuals who are allowed by Pennsylvania State law. This helps to reduce a common problem of under-age drinking as well as drinking and driving, thereby keeping forest users safer.
In 1923 the land that is now the Allegheny National Forest was purchased by the Federal Government, but the federal government did not buy the subsurface or mineral rights of the land because of financial issues. Private citizens currently own ninety-three percent of the subsurface land in the forest.

Registration of a snowmobile or ATV is required to ride on Pennsylvania lands. Pennsylvania will honor the registration from another state if that state honors a Pennsylvania registration.

Generally speaking, ATVs may be operated: On private property with the consent of the owner. On state-owned property on clearly marked and designated trails. On highways and streets when necessary to cross a bridge or culvert.
Pennsylvania law requires all Pennsylvania motor vehicle owners to maintain vehicle liability insurance (financial responsibility) on a currently registered vehicle. Vehicle liability insurance covers the property damage or injuries you may cause others in a crash.
Liability insurance coverage is required for all ATVs that are required to have general registration. Proof of this coverage should be carried by the operator. The law does not specify a minimum dollar amount for this coverage.
