(a) A transporter of hazardous waste must keep a copy of the manifest signed by the generator, himself, and the next designated transporter or the owner or operator of the designated facility for a period of three years from the date the hazardous waste was accepted by the initial transporter.

Hazardous waste codes identify the type and characteristics of waste being transported and/or disposed of. Such codes, labels and warning symbols protect everyone handling that chain of waste from its origin to its final disposition.
In this case, the DOT Proper Shipping Name will either be “Hazardous waste liquid, n.o.s.” or “Hazardous waste solid, n.o.s.” Since these names already include the word “waste,” the shipper does NOT precede them with a redundant “waste.”
