Characteristic Hazardous Wastes. Wastes may be hazardous wastes if they exhibit any of the four characteristics of a hazardous waste (ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, and toxicity) as defined in 22 CCR sections 66261.21 through 66261.24.

Commercial waste is generated as a result of carrying out any of the following activities: manufacturing and industrial processes. mining. wholesale or retail trading. sorting, resource recovery, reprocessing and recycling operations. activities carried out at a domestic premises under a commercial arrangement.

Ing to US EPA, for a waste to be considered hazardous, it must meet one or more of the following characteristics: ignitability, corrosivity, toxicity, reactivity, or infectious or pathogenic. In Malaysia, hazardous wastes are referred to as scheduled wastes.
