Concealed Weapon or Firearm License (CWFL) holders in Florida can carry a loaded handgun in their vehicle, while non-CWFL holders must ensure the firearm is securely encased or not readily accessible for immediate use.

The only law for carrying a firearm in your car in the state of Florida is that it is concealed and encased. Having it in a snap holster is considered encased so as long as it is then concealed there should be no problem.

Under Chapter 790 of the Florida Gun Statutes, carrying a concealed firearm without a concealed weapon license is a third-degree felony in Florida, punishable upon conviction by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

You must be able to demonstrate competency with a firearm. Unless you are serving overseas in the United States Armed Forces, you must currently reside in the United States and be a U.S. citizen or deemed a lawful permanent resident alien by Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service.

You should be able to complete the entire process of applying for a new license in an hour or less. Your application will then be sent to Tallahassee for processing. FDACS has 90 days after receipt of a complete application to either issue a license or deny the application.

The mandatory waiting period is 3 days, excluding weekends and legal holidays, or expires upon the completion of the records checks required under s. 790.065, whichever occurs later.
