FAQ

Room selection is not guaranteed, so it is recommended that all residents choose a few roommates in case their first or second room preference is not chosen. To choose a roommate, you can filter out other potential roommates by searching through the questionnaire or simply by clicking suggested roommates.

Students have a right to sleep and study in their residence halls. Therefore, disruptive or loud noise is prohibited. Minimum quiet hours are Sunday through Thursday, p.m. to a.m., and Friday and Saturday, midnight to a.m. Modified Quiet Hours will be in place before and during finals.

Quiet Hours are in effect during the following periods in all Campus Housing facilities: Sunday – Thursday from pm – am.

Housing & Residence Life at the University of Chicago offers a gender-neutral housing option to students of all class years, allowing increased choice in selecting roommates, regardless of gender.

Housing at the University of Chicago includes seven residence halls that are divided into 48 houses. Each house has an average of 70 students. Freshmen and sophomores must live on-campus. Limited on-campus housing is available to juniors and seniors.

After PM on weeknights and AM on weekends, and lasting until AM, residents must contain noise in their rooms and in the public areas of the Houses at levels which will not prevent other residents from studying or sleeping.

Quiet Hours are 11pm-10am on weekdays (Sun-Th) and 12am-10am on weekends (Fri-Sat) in the undergraduate halls, and 24-hours in the graduate upper-division halls. During quiet hours, noise in any room/suite should not be audible outside that room/suite's closed door.

Are there any gender-inclusive housing options? The choice to live in a gender-inclusive room or unit is up to the student at the time of application. No student will be assigned to a gender-inclusive room or unit without their expressed consent to live with a specific person(s) of any identified gender.
