Acceptable proofs of residency are, a valid government issued photo ID such as; a driver's license, and either a current utility bill, rent receipt, lease, or check with an address imprinted. Please note, library cards, previous years membership ID cards, and tax bills cannot be used as proof of residency.
The requirements to be a New York City resident are the same as those needed to be a New York State resident. You are a New York City resident if: your domicile is New York City; or. you have a permanent place of abode there and you spend 184 days or more in the city.
A person is considered a resident for tax purposes if they are either: (1) domiciled in New York or (2) not domiciled in New York, but maintain a permanent place of abode in New York and spend more than 183 days of the taxable year in New York State.
Complete the affidavit/application. Email the affidavit/application, plus two items of proof of residency to CertResHD@comptroller.nyc or submit in-person at the NYC Comptroller's Office. Proof of residency must show applicant's address (not P.O. Box or in care of a third party) and include the applicant's name.
The requirements for residence may vary based upon an employee's position, title, status or agency, but most City employees are required to establish and maintain residence in one of the five boroughs (Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island) for two years of City employment.
