2) A person utilizing a standup paddleboard must carry at least one Coast Guard approved PFD (a type I, II, or III) for each person aboard. 3) Children 10 years of age or younger must wear a Type I, II, or III Personal Flotation Device at all times on a standup paddleboard as is required for all watercraft.
Children 10 years of age or younger must wear a USCG–approved PFD at all times while on board a watercraft unless the watercraft is docked, anchored, or moored.
Life jackets and personal flotation devices: State law requires each person on board to have a properly fitting U.S. Coast Guard-approved serviceable life jacket. (Children 10 and under must always wear a life jacket.) Also, boats longer than 16 feet must have a throwable PFD.
Maine age restrictions Age to Operate a Personal Watercraft (PWC): A person under age 16 may not operate a PWC. A person between 16 & 18 years of age may operate a PWC if they have successfully completed an approved education course, or if they are accompanied by a person 18 years or older.
Beginning on August 9, 2024, a new Maine law goes into place that prohibits the operation of a motorboat engaged in a wakesurfing activity in less than 15 feet of water or within 300 feet of the shoreline.
