And you think that means a dock. But they're very. Different. Hey i'm tiffany weber.
The difference between a dock and a slip is very subtle, but nevertheless, boat owners have their own preferred method of mooring. A dock differs from a slip most immediately in that it is open on three sides. This means the vehicle will only dock against one strip of land in comparison to an enclosed slip.
A boat slip is the equivalent of a single parking space. However, unlike a dock, boat slips surround three sides of the boat, making it easy to pull into and leaving only a single point of entry and exit.
Boat slips often have an F or U configuration to create a three-sided port with a single entry point. This design allows a boat to “slip” into this parking spot with ease, which is why these structures are called slips in the first place.
Dock (boat dock, wet dock, pier, harbor, dock slip) - A place where a boat is parked on water.
