That line was defined clearly in the 1665 Carolina charter: the north end of Currituck river or inlet, upon a strait westerly line to Wyonoak creek, which lies within or about the degrees of thirty-six and thirty minutes, northern latitude; and so west, in a direct line, as far as the South-Seas.

The North Carolina–Tennessee–Virginia Corners is a tripoint at which North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia meet. The landmark is located in the Iron Mountains, and is roughly 16 miles (26 km) north of Snake Mountain, and 8 miles (13 km) southwest of Mount Rogers (the highest mountain in Virginia).
