Submit the Special Circumstance Form with an explanation statement and documentation that supports your extenuating financial circumstances. Appeals submitted without the required supporting documentation will be denied.
Outline for a Well Written Academic Appeal Describe the extenuating circumstances involved or your reason for appealing. Reference your documentation when answering the question on the appeals form. Explain why the conditions no longer (or have a lesser chance to) pose a threat to satisfactory academic performance.
The appeal should include: Evidence of significant academic progress. Documentation of extenuating circumstances that led to weak academic performance. Tangible changes which will be made to lead to future academic success.
It is designed to provide access for Hoosier students to attend eligible public, private and proprietary colleges and universities. Eligibility is based on a student's FAFSA, and the grant may be used toward tuition and regularly assessed fees.
WSU grant limits: The WSU Promise Grant is awarded for four consecutive years to new first-year undergraduates and for two consecutive years for new transfer students. Grant recipients are required to pass 24 credits each academic year and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
An undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 is required together with strong grades in science courses. Students who do not meet this requirement may be admitted on a case-by-case basis with program approval, after successfully completing Fall semester courses as a non-degree student.
Students interested in receiving the Detroit Promise Scholarship for four-year institutions must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete and submit the 2025-26 FAFSA and all college financial aid requirements. Live in Detroit for all four years of high school.
