When filing a claim for abandoned property in Ohio, claimants must provide proof of ownership and complete forms that outline the specific details of their claim. Finally, all claims must be filed within three years from when the property was reported as abandoned by its original owner.
Ohio Revised Code Section l69 states that property becomes unclaimed when, over a period of years, the owner cannot be located by the holder of the Funds. The time frame varies depending on the property, but in most cases it's five years.
Unclaimed Funds forms must be filled out, notarized and the ORIGINAL DOCUMENT must be presented to the Auditor's Office. We cannot accept photocopies, fax, or PDF. It must be an original document. Note: Some monies may require a court order, which should be submitted with your claim form.
