Teacher contracts are for one year. Teachers may receive multiyear contracts for up to three years in duration, as an incentive for obtaining the highest performance classification. However, if offered a multiyear contract, the teacher may accept a multiyear contract offer or decline and accept a one year contract.
There are three different courses of action available to the court. Firstly, damages may be awarded to put the claimant in the position they should have been in, had the contract terms been carried out correctly. Secondly, where the breach is repudiatory, the contract can be terminated. Damages may also be payable.
A teacher who leaves contrary to this section shall be deemed to commit an unprofessional act. And upon request of the governing board, shall be subject to such disciplinary action, including suspension or revocation of the certificate as a State Board of Education deems appropriate.
Teachers in Arizona are awarded tenure after a three-year probationary period.
Remember, Arizona law states, “A certificated teacher shall not resign after signing and returning his contract, unless the resignation is first approved by the governing board.
