In some situations, the UIA may send you actual bills for an overpayment. If this happens, you can use the same Financial Hardship waiver process. To do this, go to your MiWAM account and click on the Claimant Services Tab. Select “Request Restitution Waiver for Financial Hardship” and fill out the application.

It is possible there was an overpayment, but the overpayment was due to a good faith mistake. You may qualify for a waiver of your overpayments, but the most effective path to to removal of overpayment is provide income verification. Being responsive and providing documents helps to support your good faith efforts.
You have the right to appeal an overpayment determination. You must submit your appeal in writing within 30 days of the mailing date on the Notice of Overpayment (DE 1444). You can still submit an appeal after the 30-day deadline, but you must provide the reasons why you missed the appeal deadline.
