In many respects, a DPA for a company mimics elements of plea agreements and probation for individual defendants, combining penalties with rehabilitative efforts. However, probation is a form of sentencing, and in a DPA, the company is not convicted of a crime.
Deferral Definition A deferral is a sentence that a judge waits to impose to see if a defendant will faithfully follow specific terms and conditions set by court order, typically at a sentencing hearing.
Criminal Records With a deferred entry of judgment (DEJ), you enter a plea of guilty or no contest without the judge immediately entering a judgment. If you complete probation, the judge never enters judgment and dismisses the case without a conviction.

King's considers mitigating circumstances to be unforeseen circumstances, outside an applicant's control, that have a significant and detrimental effect on their academic performance or assessment. There is no definitive list, as all instances are considered on an individual case by case basis.
All deferral requests must be submitted in writing through King's Apply stating the reason for deferral. The King's Admissions Office will respond with further advice. Deferral requests must be received before the end of the enrolment period for scheduled start of the programme.
