How to Write a Letter of Credit Prepare the letter of credit documents, including the credit application, bank instructions, and the credit agreement. Make sure all documents are signed, dated, and include all necessary information. Submit documents to the issuing bank. Confirm that the bank has accepted the documents.

A letter of credit includes terminology similar to “documents must be presented within 10 days after the bill of lading date but within the validity of the letter of credit.” For example, if the shipment took place on January 1, documents must be presented no later than January 11 or the expiration date if earlier.

These documents are mostly used in international trade, where trust between buyers and sellers can be limited. Various types of letters of credit serve different purposes, such as commercial, standby, revocable, and irrevocable letters of credit.

Example: “I am writing to request an investigation of the following items on my credit report as provided by my rights under Section 609 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). I have identified several inaccuracies in my credit report that I believe need correction.”

If no such presentation time is laid down in the LC, branches will not accept the documents presented 21 days after date of shipment (Article 14i). Unless specifically stipulated in the LC, branches will accept a transport document which does not indicate that the goods are loaded or will be loaded on deck.
