Feudal Elective is the best because you can pick and choose across more distant branches of your dynasty and jump over your own kids. If you control a fair share of elector titles and give another to your preferred heir, you're near guaranteed a meritocratic succession to your preferred heir.
You could use the console command "allow_laws" which toggles the ability to change laws freely. If you do use this just remember to enter the command a 2nd time to toggle the ability off afterwards otherwise everyone will be changing their laws freely as well.
All titles are inherited by the oldest child. If this child is dead, a living heir is sought among their descendants in the same manner. If the ruler has no living descendants, the oldest sibling is chosen. If this sibling is dead, a living heir is sought among their descendants in the same manner.
Once you have the required crown authority, you find succession laws in the same realm panel. Open it, and select the Succession tab. Here you'll find buttons for changing both succession and gender laws, and clicking those will pull up a panel where you can look at the requirements for changing them.
Under the Realm tab on the right-hand side, there is an option to change the Kingdom's Succession Laws. These can range from allowing female rulers, to holding elections, to deciding upon heirs.
In order to change the succession law to Seniority a ruler needs to meet the following conditions: Has not previously changed the succession law. Has reigned for at least 10 years. Is at peace. No regency. No vassals are fighting each other. No vassal of count rank or higher has a negative opinion of the ruler.
The command set_government can be used to change any character's government type.
You can type the command succ Primogeniture to change your succesion law to primogeniture.
