You may submit an address change form electronically, but you must still visit a Secretary of State facility prior to expiration of your license. For a name change, you must provide identification with your new name and identification that links the old and new names.
Go to the Official USPS Change of Address® website. Choose an option for either an "Individual," "Family" (where everyone has the same last name), or "Business" move, and complete the form. Verify your identity: Opt in online to receive a verification code or link on your mobile phone.
You may also complete form REG-3-C, Business Information Update, and mail or fax it to us. For any other updates, you may contact Central Registration at 217 785-3707, or you may email us at REV.CRD@illinois.
If you do your address change in paper it takes 2 or 3 weeks for your mail to be forwarded. If you do it online it will be 1–2 weeks. All first class (letter mail), magazines and packages get forwarded. No junk mail is forwarded.
Illinois requires all filing entities (corporations, LLCs, etc.) to appoint a registered agent before they can operate in the state. The agent serves as the main point of contact with the secretary of state, accepting legal and government correspondence on your behalf.
If you have already filed, you may call us at 800 732-8866 to update the address while verifying tax information from your account with a representative. Call with a copy of your previously filed IL-1040 or with a notice you received.
