By local option, the county and cities may adopt an ordinance increasing this exemption "up to $50,000" and/or the Long-term Residency Senior Exemption (see below for the list of cities adopting the increased amount).

You are 65 years of age, or older, on January 1; You qualify for, and receive, the Florida Homestead Exemption; Your total 'Household Adjusted Gross Income' for everyone who lives on the property cannot exceed statutory limits.

The total household income limitation is the same for both exemptions. It is made available by the Florida Department of Revenue annually and subject to change each year. The adjusted income limitation for the 2025 exemptions is $37,694.

A person seeking exemption under number 2 above must meet gross income limitations. Gross income includes veterans' and social security benefits. The gross income of all persons residing in the homestead for the prior year cannot exceed $14,500.

If the assessed value of your property is greater than $50,000, you will receive up to $25,000 for the extra homestead exemption.

Travis County offers a 20% homestead exemption, the maximum allowed by law. The Commissioners Court also offers an additional $85,500 exemption for homesteads of those 65 years and older or are disabled.

The Senior Exemption is an additional property tax benefit available to home owners who meet the following criteria: The property must qualify for a homestead exemption. At least one homeowner must be 65 years old as of January 1.
