You are 65 years of age, or older, on January 1; You qualify for, and receive, the Florida Homestead Exemption; Your total 'Household Adjusted Gross Income' for everyone who lives on the property cannot exceed statutory limits.
You must own the property and live in it as your primary residence to qualify. If you no longer qualify for the Homestead Exemption you must file the change or removal form.
If you drive, you must have a Florida driver's license. Your home address on your federal income tax return should be Florida. There is no specific amount of time you must spend in Florida.

The fastest way to become a Florida resident is to establish a permanent home in the state, update your driver's license, register to vote, and file a Declaration of Domicile with the local county clerk. You must still be physically present in the state for at least 183 days.
