Your response to a request for production consists of two parts: One part is a written response to the requests, in which you state under penalty of perjury that you will produce the requested items; that you will not produce and why; or that you object to a request on legal grounds.
Interrogatories, which are written questions about things that are relevant or important to the case. (NRCP 33; JCRCP 33) Requests for production of documents or things, which are written requests that demand the other side provide particular documents or items.
Interrogatories are written questions sent by one party to another, which the responding party must answer under penalty of perjury. Interrogatories allow the parties to ask who, what, when, where and why questions, making them a good method for obtaining new information in a case.
If you do not answer the questions by the deadline, which is usually about a month, the other side could ask the judge to order you to respond to the interrogatories. If you miss the second deadline, the judge could impose a fine against you or strike your pleadings.
Read each question (interrogatory) very carefully. Answer only the question that is asked, and avoid the temptation to over-explain your answer. If the question contains several parts, you may break your answer into parts as well. It is also possible that you might object to the question.

When you receive a Request for Production, the other side is asking you to hand over a document or item, usually to be copied. Sometimes, this is called a Demand for Inspection. You have 30 days to respond to a Request for Production.
There is no limit to demands for production of documents (CCP2031. 010(a)). However, you must be reasonable. You cannot request so many as to be unduly burdensome and expensive, annoying, embarrassing, or oppressive.
