FAQ

There are currently no rules in WA that require you to self-isolate if you test positive for COVID-19. However, it is strongly recommended that you stay home for at least 5 days or until your symptoms have gone, and take steps to protect others.

That said, you are contagious with COVID for an average of eight days (although this varies based upon the severity of illness) and you should take precautions to prevent others from getting it during this time frame.

After completing your 5 days of recommended isolation, if your symptoms have resolved and you feel well, you can return to your normal activities. Up until 10 days after your symptoms started or you tested positive, we recommend you wear a mask if you need to: visit a healthcare facility.

You can go back to your normal activities when both of the following have been true for at least 24 hours: Your symptoms are getting better overall, and. You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).

Only leave isolation after 5 days if you have no symptoms or your symptoms are improving, including at least 24 hours without a fever. Continue to wear a mask around others until at least day 11 and avoid others who may get severely ill from COVID.

You can go back to your normal activities when both of the following have been true for at least 24 hours: Your symptoms are getting better overall, and. You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).

The updated Respiratory Virus Guidance recommends that people stay home and away from others until at least 24 hours after both their symptoms are getting better overall, and they have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).

You can go back to your normal activities when both of the following have been true for at least 24 hours: Your symptoms are getting better overall, and. You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).

For variants before Omicron the estimated incubation period is 2-14 days, with a median of 5-6 days. For Omicron subvariants, the estimated median incubation period 3-4 days.
