Texas State Law: A child 14 or 15 years of age may not work more than eight hours in one day or more than 48 hours in one week.

Minimum Age It is illegal to employ a child under 14 except under specific circumstances described on this page.

Unlike some other states, South Carolina does not require juvenile work permits. This means that a teen does not need to get any special permission from the state to begin working.

Ages 16 & 17 Older teens are allowed to work for up to 48 hours over the course of the week. 16 and 17-year-olds are allowed to work between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. most days and as late as a.m. on nights before nonschool days.

A child who is 16 or 17 has no restrictions on the number of hours or times of day they may work. There are hour restrictions only for children who are 14 and 15, with separate state and federal laws that cover their work hours.

A person may not employ a child to solicit (soliciting is considered a hazardous occupation) unless the person submits a parental consent form to the commission. For information on federal law concerning youth peddling, refer to Code of Federal Regulation 570.33. 6.

The commission will issue a certificate of age after approval of the application and documentary proof of age. This certificate is required for any child between the ages of 14 and 18 to work, unless employed directly by a parent or guardian.

Do child workers require a work permit: Though a work permit is not required, Texas does have a certificate of age document that is available to children to prove their age to an employer. Child actors or performers under the age of 14 must obtain a permit.

16-year-old children cannot work more than 10 hours consecutive or more than 10 hours in a 24 hours period. 7 p.m. (9 p.m. before non-school day) to 6 a.m. 8-48 school day-week: 4-48 d except 8 before non-school day.
