On April 26, 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 917, passed by the 2024 Florida Legislature. The bill authorizes minors aged 16 or 17 to perform limited residential construction work if the minor meets certain certification and supervision requirements.

39.01. (f) “Minor” means a person under the age of 18 years.

Minors age 16-17 years of age: Are restricted from working between the hours of 11 p.m. and a.m. on nights prior to a school day. Cannot work more than 30 hours in any one week while school is in session.

Work Permits are issued in Florida for the entertainment industry only. A waiver of the child labor law is needed when minors want to work in the regular workforce beyond the limits of the state law. DBPR reviews waiver requests from those minors who are no longer enrolled in the public school K-12 programs.
