The working day of an adult (unskilled/semi-skilled/skilled) worker should be inclusive of the interval of rest – it shall not exceed 12 hours on any day.

If a worker works on the first day of the week then he has to be given a substituted holiday within 3 days preceding or succeeding the Sunday on which he has worked. A worker shall work for 48 hours a week. Everyday a worker can work for 9 hours but weekly total cannot cross 48 hours.

These include right to work of one's choice, right against discrimination, prohibition of child labour, just and humane conditions of work, social security, protection of wages, redress of grievances, right to organize and form trade unions, collective bargaining and participation in management.

The Act mandates a maximum of 48 hours of work per week spread over 6 days, with no worker permitted to work more than 9 hours a day or 48 hours a week. (ii) No worker shall be employed for more than 14 consecutive days without rest period of at least 24 consecutive hours. Holidays so lost shall be fixed in ance with Section 53 of the Act.
