Florida Civil Rights Act of 1992 § 760.01, et seq., mimics federal laws in that it prohibits discrimination because of an individual's race, color, religion, gender, pregnancy, national origin, age, handicap, or marital status. The Act further prohibits discrimination because of an individual's marital status.

Any person engaging in or managing any business within the City without first obtaining a local business tax license shall be subject to a penalty of 25% of the license determined to be due, in addition to any other penalty provided by law or ordinance.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees. It defines an “employer” as a person engaged in an industry affecting commerce with 15 or more employees for each working day in each of 20 or more calendar weeks in the current or preceding calendar year.

Employers of five or more are subject to the FEHA's prohibition against employment discrimination. Harassment is prohibited in all workplaces, even those with only one employee or independent contractor on staff. “Employer” does not include the federal government or a non-profit religious association or corporation.
