Mike Morath Prior to becoming the state's Education Commissioner, Morath served on the Dallas Independent School District board of trustees for more than four years.
The current commissioner of education is Mike Morath. A former member of the Dallas Independent School District's board of trustees, he was appointed commissioner of education by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on December 14, 2015. The commissioner's role is to lead and manage the Texas Education Agency.
