When someone owns property and makes it his or her permanent residence or the permanent residence of his or her dependent, the property owner may be eligible to receive a homestead exemption that would decrease the property's taxable value by as much as $50,000.

You are 65 years of age, or older, on January 1; You qualify for, and receive, the Florida Homestead Exemption; Your total 'Household Adjusted Gross Income' for everyone who lives on the property cannot exceed statutory limits.

If your homestead property has an assessed value from $50,001 through $74,999, you will receive an additional exemption proportionately up to $24,999. All homestead property with an assessed value of $75,000 or more will receive the full $25,000.

Certain property tax benefits are available to persons age 65 or older in Florida. Eligibility for property tax exemp�ons depends on certain requirements. Informa�on is available from the property appraiser's office in the county where the applicant owns a homestead or other property.

Qualifying seniors receive deductions off their tax bills because they are senior citizens. The senior citizen exemption reduces the tax bill by a sum certain each year. The actual deduction is $5,000 times the local tax rate.

The plan would provide up to an additional $25,000 homestead exemption for homeowners sixty-five years of age or older with a household income $28,482 a year or less.

Real estate owned by certain religious, charitable or educational entities that are used for religious, charitable or educational purposes is exempt from property taxation. An exemption must be applied for through the Property Appraiser's office. The exemption is not automatic.
