FAQ

Most flights start boarding 30 - 50 minutes before scheduled departure, but the exact time depends on your destination and plane. Boarding ends 15 minutes before departure. If you're not on board, we may reassign your seat to another passenger. You will not be allowed to board once the doors close.

Oakland International Airport has 2 terminals. The majority of airlines operate from Terminal 1, including flights to international destinations. Southwest Airlines is the only airline to operate from Terminal 2 with domestic flights only.

Suggested arrival time: 2 hours before scheduled departure time for US domestic flights. 3 hours before scheduled departure time for international flights to/from the US.

30 minutes prior to scheduled departure time: We may begin boarding as early as 30 minutes prior to your flight's scheduled departure time. We encourage all passengers to plan to arrive in the gate area no later than this time.

Southwest begins the boarding process roughly 30 minutes before the flight's scheduled departure. At the beginning of the boarding process, the Southwest agent will have passengers with an A boarding position line up.

On Southwest Airlines, boarding spots are designated with letters (A, B, C) and numbers (1-60), with A being the best boarding group. B-57 means you would board in the B group, which is generally better than C but not as advantageous as A.

Upon check in, you and your Companion will receive sequential boarding positions except if you purchased a Business Select® fare or added the Companion after you had been assigned a boarding position.

C 1-60: This is the group you will most likely get if you don't check in right on time. While the C group isn't a guaranteed middle seat, the chances are pretty high that you won't be sitting in the ideal spot.
