Jurors are asked to dress appropriately for a courtroom. Business or casual dress is acceptable—jeans and t-shirts are okay. Jurors are warned that temperatures in courtrooms can vary widely (both cold and hot) and are encouraged to dress appropriately. SHORTS AND TANK TOPS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN COURTROOMS.

The process for requesting a permanent medical excuse from jury service is as follows: (1) An applicant must submit to the jury commissioner a written request for permanent medical excuse with a supporting letter, memo, or note from a treating health care provider.
Contra Costa County is broadly divided into three sub-areas: West County, including of the cities of El Cerrito, Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, and Hercules, as well as the unincorporated communities of Kensington, El Sobrante, North Richmond, Rodeo, Crockett, and Port Costa.
There is no age exemption for jury service. If you are 70 years of age or older, the California Rules of Court allow you to be excused due to a medical condition without a doctor's note. You must inform the court that you are not able to serve.
If you have a serious physical or mental condition and jury service would expose you to undue risk of physical or mental harm. Physician's statement required for persons under 70 years of age (see below); persons over 70 years of age may self-certify.
If you are: a person (this includes sole-proprietors) you may claim up to $12,500; if you are a Corporation, limited liability company or partnership, you may claim up to $6,250.
Go online to request to be disqualified from jury service. Use your Juror ID Number, found in the upper right corner of your summons, and your date of birth to access the system. Select the option on the left to Request to be Disqualified from Jury Service.
