In 2024, District 5 Supervisor Shanelle Scales-Preston was the first African American woman elected to the Board. The current board chair is Candace Andersen, who represents District 2. District 3 Supervisor Diane Burgis is the current vice chair.
Under Government Code Section 25000, counties must have a Board of Supervisors with five members, unless specified otherwise in a county charter (e.g., San Francisco has 11 members and a mayor). Supervisors must live in and be registered voters of their districts.
