All traffic offenses in Chicago are heard in the Traffic Division, located in the Daley Center. Traffic offenses written outside of Chicago are assigned for hearing in the municipal district where the violation was alleged to occur.
University Presses in particular help to preserve local culture by producing regional literature. They have always been important publishers of poetry as well, such as the University of Pittsburgh Press, but more and more they are accepting literary fiction and memoir.
The University of Chicago Press prefers manuscripts submitted in electronic form in Microsoft Word. We can also work with files prepared in LaTeX (please consult your acquiring editor for special instructions if you plan to submit LaTeX files).
As a scholarly publisher with a portfolio of more than 90 journals and over 120 years in the publishing industry, the University of Chicago Press is committed to the highest standards of publishing practices. We publish only peer-reviewed journals of original scholarship.
The University of Chicago Press is uniquely situated as a scholarly journals publisher. As the largest university press in North America and with more than 120 years in the publishing industry, we have the resources and experience to effectively support every partnership scenario.
We do not publish original fiction. We do occasionally reissue classic novels, and we have published fiction in translation. For poetry, our Phoenix Poets series is open to submissions each October. We do consider new editions of books if paperback and ebook rights are available.
Either side in a case can file a motion. In some instances, a non-party may file a motion (for example, a motion to quash a subpoena issued in the case). Motions are electronically filed (e-file) with the court clerk where your case is being heard and are decided by a judge at a motion hearing.
The Motion and the Notice of Motion need to be e-filed with the Clerk of the Court. The e-Filing system will reject your filing if you do not enter a court date on the form before e-filing it.
In your written motion, you should ask the judge to vacate the judgment. If you are filing the motion within 30 days of learning of the default judgment, you should say so. Include weekends and holidays when counting. The deadline cannot be a weekend or holiday.
If you want to file a motion, the process is generally something like this: You write your motion. You file your motion with the court clerk. The court clerk inserts the date and time your motion will be heard by the judge. You “serve” (mail) your motion to the other side.
