The easiest kind of contractor's license is a Class “B” Contractor's License. This license allows you to do general contracting work. There are also licenses for specialty contracting work called a Class “C” Contractor's License. These are for jobs like plumbing or electrical.
A Building Permit is required for an owner or contractor of a property to construct any residential building with a floor area greater than 120 square feet. Prior to starting construction you will be required to submit plans and any necessary supporting documentation for review and approval by the County.

A qualifying individual, or “qualifier,” is a person listed in the California Contractors State License Board's (CSLB) records who meets the experience and examination requirements set by the CSLB and is responsible for the compliance of the contracting business with state regulations.
