Law school is an academic challenge; most students agree the first year (“1L” year) is the most difficult. In part, this is because law school is taught using methods entirely different than the lecture method used in most college classrooms.
If you want to familiarize yourself with the basics of the legal system to prepare for your first year of law school, be sure to grab a copy of Law 101: Everything You Need to Know About The American Legal System. This book is an excellent primer to topics that you'll be tackling during your 1L at law school.

Wayne State Law ranks #105 in terms of bar passage rate among first-time test takers (77.8%), and it outperforms by +2.7% the state of Michigan's overall bar passage rate of 75.1%.

Old law books have almost no monetary value and sometimes your only option is to throw them away. You best bet is probably to take them to a used bookstore and see if the bookstore will take them off your hands. To some extent, it depends on what you mean when you say 'old law books'.
If you are considering working during your first year of law school, be sure to check your school's policy before accepting a position! If you have the ability to take a year off work, your 1L year of law school is the time to do it. Law school is very demanding and is very different from undergrad.
Some agencies or charities will take donations to their own book sales. I have sold sets to alumni who need window dressing in their new office spaces. My most successful disposal of old law books came from a furniture store decorator who needed to fill book shelves with clean, unmarked books.
Donate them. My college town has a Goodwill, a Salvation Army, and a local thrift shop — all three of which sell textbooks donated from students. Your local library is another option; give them a call and see if they're open to taking your donations.
