The good news is that you can take the New York bar exam an unlimited amount of times if you do not pass. New York does not place a limit or a restriction on the number of times you may attempt to pass the bar exam. This, of course, does not mean that you want to take it numerous times.

New York Reciprocity New York has reciprocity agreements with: AK, CO, DC, GA, IL, IN, IA, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NH, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV, WI, and WY.

A person who passes the Bar Exam is notified by letter. In that letter will be the date and location of the “swearing in” ceremony. A Justice from the state supreme court will “swear in” the new lawyers in a mass ceremony. Once sworn in, you are licensed to practice law in the state where you took the Bar Exam.

Admission on Motion (Reciprocity) New York State permits admission on motion, without examination, for applicants who have practiced for five of the preceding seven years, are admitted to practice in at least one reciprocal U.S. jurisdiction, and have graduated from an American Bar Association approved law school.
