Corona is now brewed in China for the Australasia market. It is the top-selling brand of imported beer in the United States. It is often served with a wedge of lime or lemon in the neck of the bottle to add tartness and flavor.
When people think of putting lime in beer they usually name the Mexican style layers. That being said, I occasionally squeeze a little lime juice in a Miller High Life or regular Budweiser and it's just as effective. Really, any American style macro lager will do.
Adding lime gives the beer a zesty, refreshing flavor, which some people really enjoy. Some even add "Lime Beer Salt" for an extra kick of flavor. The alcohol level stays the same; the lime just changes the taste a bit.
Modelo is my jam and if you haven't yet, you need to pour one in a glass, squeeze a lime chunk in there and give it a couple shakes of tajin seasoning, it will change your life.
At its best, a michelada is one of the great drinks of summer, a low-alcohol concoction of cheap, light Mexican beer (think Modelo, Victoria, Tecate, PacÃfico, or Corona); fresh lime juice; and chile heat.
In any case, Corona has been brewed since 1925 and was not associated with lime until relatively recently. In Mexico, the only places that serve Corona with a lime wedge are places that primarily serve Americans. Native Mexicans don't drink it that way and no other Mexican beers get the lime treatment.
