FAQ

Keep TCS food outside of the danger zone (410F and 1350F; 50C and 570C ): Pathogens grow within this temperature range. If food is held in this range for 4+ hours, throw it out.

Food that has not been used within two hours, should either be reheated until it is steaming hot and put back in hot holding or chilled down as quickly as possible to 8°C or below. If it has been out for more than two hours throw it away.

Within 2 hours of cooking food or after it is removed from an appliance keeping it warm, leftovers must be refrigerated. Throw away all perishable foods that have been left in room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is over 90° F, such as at an outdoor picnic during summer).

Hold cold foods at 41 degrees Fahrenheit or less and check the temperature every four hours. If the temperature of the food at four hours is greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit, the food must be discarded.

Maintain hot TCS food at 135°F or above. Properly cooked roasts may be held at 130°F or above. TCS food must be cooled from 135°F to 70°F within 2 hours and completely cooled to 41°F or below within 6 hours. TCS food prepared from ingredients at room temperature must be cooled to 41°F or below within 4 hours.

Food held between 5oC and 60oC for less than 2 hours can be used, sold or put back in the refrigerator to use later. Food held between 5oC and 60oC for 2-4 hours can still be used or sold, but can't be put back in the fridge. Food held between 5oC and 60oC for 4 hours or more must be thrown away.

Electric fireplaces have an overheating alarm to protect the unit and prevent fire risks. If the fireplace overheats, it may beep continuously. A faulty fan motor or malfunctioning control board often causes this problem. Turn off the power and wait a few minutes before turning it back on to reset the unit.

The beeping is a low battery signal. Look under the fireplace and find the receiver box and change the batteries.

The fireplace controller will beep once these batteries start to go dead. Replace batteries before each heating season to insure proper operation.

You can turn off the beep on some units with the remote or something like pressing the timer button for 5 seconds. So look up the online owners manual for your particular fireplace and see what it says. If there is no beep turn off, you can always find the mechanism on your fireplace and disable it. Happy camping!
