The average high school GPA for admitted students at University of Maryland-College Park (UMD) is 2.6 on a 4.0 scale. (You can calculate your high school a GPA here.) This is a very competitive GPA, and University of Maryland-College Park (UMD) is clearly accepting students at the top of their high school class.
However, most selective colleges and universities — Harvard, Stanford, and USC, just to name a few — require one to three recommendation letters, usually from your guidance counselor and at least one teacher. Furthermore, you should be taking hard classes - AP or IB courses - to show that college-level academics is a breeze.
