You have three chances with each learner's permit to pass the road test before the expiration date of the learner's permit. After the third failure, you must reapply to extend your learner's permit.
If you fail, you may try again the next day. But the best time to retake your permit test in PA is after some revision of the theory and knowledge you need before you can be a learner driver. You may only try three times to pass the permit test on one permit.
To schedule your driver's test, go to the online driver's test scheduling login page(opens in a new tab). You can also use this login to cancel or reschedule a test.
The driver's score will be based on the number of errors committed during the test. An accumulation of 11 errors or more will constitute a failed test. An automatic failure will occur if the driver commits any traffic offense, runs over a curb or sidewalk, or causes an accident.
If the attempt at parallel parking is unsuccessful, the test will be ended as per PA state guidelines.
After the third failure, you must reapply to extend your learner's permit. If you do not pass your road test after three tries or if your learner's permit expires, you may obtain an Application to Add/Extend/Replace/Change/Correct Non-Commercial Learner's Permit or DL-31(opens in a new tab) (PDF).
To cancel your driving test, go to the 'My bookings' page of your MyRoadSafetyOpen in new browser tabOpen in new browser tab account, click 'Manage Booking' and select 'Cancel'.
Your renewal notice will indicate if you need to take a knowledge test. You are allowed three attempts to pass each of the required knowledge tests. If you fail the same test three times, your application is no longer valid and you will need to reapply.
After the road test, the examiner will give you instructions on how to receive your test results by visiting roadtestresults.nyrtsscheduler . Your results will be posted to the website after 6 p.m. on the day of your test.
