Using driving test cancellation apps If you don't have the time or patience to search for cancelled driving tests manually, there are some apps that can do this for you. Usually, you'll book your driving test through the DVSA and then sign up to an app that scans test centres for suitable rescheduling slots.
If you already have a test booked, you can also try checking late at night. I had mine booked for the end of July, and last week I happened to look for a cancellation at like 10pm one night, and managed to get one for the following Sunday. Early morning or late night are probably your best bets.
Finding an earlier theory test can be tough since the DVSA does not have a cancellation list. We search test centres every 5 minutes for theory test cancellations to give you the best chance of finding an earlier test date.
Theory test appointments can be booked and keeping to three clear working days' notice, can also be changed and cancelled online or by telephone.
Can't get an appointment? Get in line before you head to the DMV. Use your cell phone to scan the QR code to see if this feature is available at an office near you. Please report to the non-appointment line when you arrive to have your paperwork reviewed by staff.
You can walk into any California DMV, get a number, and quite likely get your business done within somewhere between 30 minutes and five hours.
If you just don't have the time or patience, you can nix the appointment and opt to walk in during a slow period. If you want to get in and out of the DMV in the shortest time possible, go: Bright and early when the DMV opens. Before the lunch hour, before noon.
When you're ready to take the California written driving test, you'll need to go to a DMV office near you. You can save time by making an appointment: schedule one online or by calling 1-800-777-0133.

If you are 70 years or older when your driver's license expires, you are required to renew your driver's license in person and pass a vision test unless otherwise instructed by DMV. Knowledge tests and training are no longer required for most senior drivers.
