We often identify a work by its subject: a landscape painting, a sculpture of a young woman, a lithograph of a cat. Form (or design), is the visual organization of the art work -how the artist has used line, shape, value, color, etc. Content is the impact or meaning of this work.
The form of a movie encompasses the various technical elements, such as cinematography, sound, editing, and mise-en-scène, which contribute to the way a story is told. On the other hand, content refers to the movie's narrative, themes, ideas, and emotional dynamics that the story intends to convey.
The form of the film is like the body: containing a skeleton that gives it a rough shape, but also defined in infinitely unique ways by the relationship between countless other features (the color of the eyes, the texture of the hair, the way the body moves across space).
Scorsese says that “content” is a “business term for all moving images: A David Lean movie, a cat video, a Super Bowl commercial, a superhero sequel, a series episode.”
A few of the major television and motion picture projects that have filmed on Allegheny County property include: Banshee, Concussion, Fences, Jack Reacher, Love the Coopers, Mindhunter, and Outsiders.
FILM FORM = the total system a viewer perceives in a film. Narrative subsystem (plot) + Stylistic subsystem (camera, color, music etc.)
Content is defined as what is being shown. While form is explained as different styles or equipment used.
