Generally speaking, in Tennessee unclaimed property is intangible (ex. uncashed paychecks, savings accounts)or tangible property (ex. safe deposit box contents), in which there has been no activity generated or contact with the owner for a one-year or longer period—at which point, it becomes unclaimed or "abandoned".
Property is considered abandoned in Iowa if the tenant does not respond to the notice within 30-33 days or fails to claim the property. This means that if the tenant does not respond to the notice or fails to claim the property within the specified time frame, the property is considered abandoned.
The legal term for this is acquiescence; to accept or passively submit. In Tennessee, the required duration of adverse possession to attain ownership is seven (7) years for someone claiming under color of title and twenty (20) years for someone without color of title.
