The Civil Court has monetary jurisdiction up to $50,000.00, including replevin when the value of the chattel does not exceed that amount.

In order to avoid a default, the Defendant must respond upon being served with either the summons with notice or the summons and complaint within the applicable time frame. These deadlines are found in CPLR §320(a) and are 20 or 30 days depending on how service was made.
The monetary threshold for cases in Kings County Commercial Division has been raised from $50,000.00 to $75,000.00.
You Can Lose By Default: If you don't file a response 30 days after you were served, the Plaintiff can file a form called “Request for Default”. The Plaintiff has to wait 30 days to file this. If the Plaintiff files this form, the Court can enter a judgment against you. The Plaintiff will win the case.
