You may request postponement of your jury service online after submitting your online questionnaire. If you have already postponed your jury service two times, you may not request an additional postponement. To request a postponement of your jury service, you will need your nine-digit participant number.
In ance with San Diego Local Rule 2.5. 8, the court may permit parties to appear by telephone or video in civil cases. Refer to your Notice of Hearing and the court's website at for the most current instructions on how to appear and how to submit evidence.
Reasons you may be excused from jury service include: You have no means of transportation. You would have to travel an excessive distance to the courthouse. You have a physical or mental impairment. You provide care for a dependent and cannot afford to have someone cover for you.
You must submit a written request to the Clerk of Courts. You will only be excused upon receipt of your written request and approval by the court.
Minor hardships or inconveniences to an employer are not legal reasons to be excused from jury service. However, you may request to be postponed to a more convenient time. If serving on jury duty will create an extreme financial hardship, visit the online Juror Portal to request an excuse.
