Yes. You can skip some of the main quest lines. It's easy once you've played the game one or twice. Right as soon as you leave Fallout 101, 2 of the main quests can be skipped with a little bit of wiki knowledge or previous experience. All those quests are immediately skipped once you step into Vault 112.
(SPOILERS) Do not complete the Silver Shroud Quest line until you have enough charisma to save Kent! If you save Kent he will upgrade your armor at certain levels which will eventually make it the second best armor in the game. I maxed charisma and did a quick save before the last boss battle.
There aren't any more Silver Shroud missions after you finish the quest, regardless of whether Kent lives or dies. The only difference is that if Kent survives he'll upgrade the Silver Shroud Costume into Silver Shroud Armor, and provide three leveled incremental upgrades to the armor.
