Hide search engines In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and then select Preferences or Settings, depending on your macOS version. Firefox out of the box isn't privacy focused, it has privacy invasive settings automatically on and uses google as it's default search engine, that is the reason.

In Firefox settings>Search>Search Suggestions, uncheck Show search suggestions in address bar results and ahead of browsing history. In Privacy & Security>Address bar, uncheck Search engines.
