SEVIS – This should be your current U.S. residential address. This should ALWAYS be a U.S. address. If you are not currently in the United States, this should be your last known U.S. address or a future U.S. address if known.

You are still considered to be in F-1 student status while on OPT and will continue to use your F-1 visa stamp for any travel during your OPT period. To maintain status on OPT, you must either work at job(s) directly related to your major/level of study or actively seek employment in your major/level of study.

Form I-901 Access form I-901 online. List your name exactly as it appears on your I-20 document. You will need the "School Code," which is also on your I-20. Check that the information is correct. Print at least 2 copies of the receipt. Keep your receipt with your other important immigration documents.

You must be physically present in the US at the time you submit your OPT application.

Locate the address associated with SEVIS. Click the SEVIS “edit” button. Make sure you do not change your international address in the process. The international address has to be a living location outside the U.S. while the SEVIS address is your current living address within the U.S. for reporting purposes.

If your OPT has been approved, and you have your EAD card, you can travel internationally.

Students on post-completion OPT may have up to 90 days of unemployment. The 90 days start counting from your approved OPT/EAD start date (not the recommended start date nor the program end date on your I-20) and are cumulative.

The letter serves as proof that he has a job, but it is not required, just recommended. Students are allowed to travel while on OPT if they do not have a job, but they need to be able to explain what they are doing (``I have 2 interviews lined up with X company and Y company...etc.'').
